My name is Jonas Dettki and I am a German Painter and Sculptor.

My artistic practice explores the intricate relationships between humans, non-human animals, and the environments we share—both natural and constructed. I am captivated by the ways encounters with beauty, chaos, and the sublime shape memory, perception, and the silent connections that bind living beings. I seek to evoke emotional worlds where the symbolic and organic intertwine, inspired by the quiet intelligence of ecosystems and the unspoken narratives of non-human life.

 

In my large-scale paintings on sewn, unstretched canvases, semi-transparent human figures emerge within geometric patterns reminiscent of root systems, ocean currents, and constellations. Recently, I have begun integrating animal forms into these “human landscapes”—a way of dissolving the human-centered lens and inviting viewers to consider shared forms of sentience and survival. The birds and creatures that appear in my work do not merely exist as symbols but as beings with their own stories.
